DiskDuo vs CleanMyMac

CleanMyMac is the best known Mac cleaner there is, and it does a great deal more than clear space. DiskDuo is narrower and cheaper: it measures your disk, shows you every byte, cleans what you approve, and checks the protections macOS already has.

The short answer

If you want one app to look after a Mac and do not mind paying every year, CleanMyMac covers more ground. If you want to see exactly where your space went, decide for yourself what goes, and pay once, that is what DiskDuo is for.

What you pay, and for how long

This is the honest difference. CleanMyMac is a subscription: you keep paying to keep using it. DiskDuo is bought once and stays yours, with every 1.x update included, on one Mac at a time that you can move to a new machine. If you only need to find and clear space a few times a year, a yearly bill is a lot for the job.

What each one shows you first

DiskDuo opens on a measurement, not a recommendation: a treemap of your own disk, with nine ways to read it and a selection that follows you between them. It will suggest easy wins, but the map comes first. That ordering is deliberate — you should be able to answer “what is taking the space” before anyone offers to delete something.

What leaves the machine

DiskDuo has no analytics and no crash reporting. It contacts its server to activate a licence and to look for updates, and for nothing else. Its malware scan reads the XProtect signatures macOS already keeps, so even that stays local. Compare that with any cleaner’s privacy policy before you install it, including this one’s.

What DiskDuo does not do

It does not speed up your Mac, flush RAM, kill processes on a schedule or promise tune-ups. There is no maintenance script it runs for you. It measures, it shows, it removes what you approve, and it tells you the state of the protections macOS already has.

Where CleanMyMac is the better buy

CleanMyMac is the more complete suite: maintenance scripts, a menu bar assistant, malware monitoring of its own, and years of polish behind it. If you want one app to look after everything and you are happy with a subscription, it is a reasonable buy.

Questions

About the two of them.

Is DiskDuo a CleanMyMac alternative?

For finding and clearing disk space, yes, and for a one-time price. For system maintenance beyond that, it is deliberately narrower.

Can I use both?

Yes. They do not interfere with each other; both move files to the Trash rather than deleting outright.

Decide with your own disk in front of you.
