DiskDuo vs CleanMyMac
An honest comparison: what each shows you before it cleans, what leaves your Mac, and what you pay. DiskDuo is a one-time purchase; CleanMyMac is sold by subscription.
Compared
CCleaner is a household name on Windows and has a Mac build. DiskDuo exists only on the Mac, and is built around the things macOS does differently: APFS clones, sealed system volumes, sandboxed containers and the Trash.
The short answer
If you want a familiar cleaner across both Windows and macOS, CCleaner is the one with that reach. If you want a tool that treats a Mac as a Mac, DiskDuo is written for nothing else.
| DiskDuo | CCleaner | |
|---|---|---|
| Platforms | macOS only | Windows, macOS and Android |
| How you pay | One payment | A free tier and paid plans. Checked in September 2026 — verify on their site, since this can change. |
| Disk map | Nine views of one scan | Limited on the Mac build |
| APFS clones | Recognised, and never counted as space you can reclaim | Not stated |
| System files | Blocked in the engine, not just hidden in the interface | Not stated |
| Removal | Trash by default, with no immediate-delete shortcut | Varies by task |
| Analytics | None | Collected, per their privacy policy |
On APFS, two files can share the same blocks. A copy can cost nothing, and deleting it frees nothing. DiskDuo asks the file system what a file really occupies, counts hard links once, and refuses to promise space that a clone would not give back. A cleaner written for another platform first has little reason to know any of that.
Modern macOS keeps its own files on a sealed volume that nothing should touch. DiskDuo follows the firmlinks into your data volume so the total is honest, and blocks the system paths in the engine so they cannot be staged however they are reached.
Every removal in DiskDuo is a list you approve: each path, its size, and where it was staged from. Then it goes to the Trash. There is no “clean” button that empties a set of locations you have not seen.
CCleaner covers Windows, macOS and Android, has a free tier, and is familiar to a great many people. If you look after machines on more than one platform, that consistency has real value.
Questions
That is a question for its makers and its privacy policy. What DiskDuo can say about itself is that it collects nothing, blocks the system paths in the engine, and moves everything to the Trash.
You can download it and see everything it finds before you buy. Cleaning requires the licence, which is a single payment.
